Driven by the double drive of capacity scale leap and technical performance iteration, Lyocell fiber is shifting from "niche selection" to "core raw materials" of yarn, fabric and end product enterprises, becoming the key fulcrum of textile industry chain upgrading in recent years.
Productivity and performance leapt, and domestic technology breakthroughs led the industry to take off
For the rapid development of Lyocell fiber in recent years, Yu Hanjiang, President of Lyocell Fiber Branch of China Chemical Fiber Industry Association, Deputy General Manager of General Technical New Materials, and Chairman of Green Fiber Co., Ltd. of China National Academy of Textile Technology, believes that it is mainly due to continuous breakthroughs in domestic technology.
Before the industrialization of Lyocell fiber in China, the total investment of 10000 tons of Lyocell fiber production line generally required more than 400 million yuan. The investment cost of production line was high, and the price of imported Lyocell fiber remained high. Through the practice of tackling key problems in some domestic enterprises' production line technological transformation and other projects, the leap from relying on imports to independent and controllable has been achieved. At present, the investment cost of the high configuration and high capacity Lyssell production line designed by domestic engineering technology companies has dropped to 200 million yuan/10000 tons. Compared with foreign projects of the same scale, the domestic investment intensity is significantly lower than that of overseas projects, and the production process is more efficient and low consumption, significantly reducing costs.

After 18 years of efforts, the China Textile Science Research Institute under General Technology Group has continued to promote the research and development of Lyocell fiber industrialization technology, relying on independent innovation, to build a 10000 ton Lyocell fiber industrialization set of technologies integrating and innovating process, equipment, safety, automatic control and engineering technology systems. In order to accelerate the industrialization of Lyocell fiber, in 2015, General Technology Group established China Textile Academy Green Fiber Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "China Textile Green Fiber"), and in 2016, built the first 10000 ton Lyocell fiber production line with fully independent intellectual property rights in China. At present, the annual production capacity of China Textile Green Fiber Lyocell fiber reaches 110000 tons, the full set of processes are self controlled, and it has complete independent technical intellectual property rights. It has built the world's third Lyocell fiber production line, greatly reducing the cost of Lyocell fiber.

Since May 2020, Sidelli has broken through the technical barriers of Lyocell's production and continuously increased its production capacity. The production capacity is expected to reach 600000 tons in 2025, making it an important contributor to the total production capacity of Lyocell fibers in China. In addition to the advantages of large-scale production, Saideli Group has performed very well in market promotion. In recent years, by combining Lyocell with other fibers, it has realized the application of Lyocell in four seasons, and has quietly emerged in the field of knitting, weaving, jeans and home textile.
In addition, the source of raw materials used for Lyocell fiber has been further expanded. In the past, the source of raw materials for Lyocell fiber was relatively limited. Now, with the development of technology, the types of wood pulp available are increasing, and other plant fibers such as bamboo pulp can also be used as raw materials. The supply of raw materials is more stable and abundant, providing a basis for large-scale production.
Application innovation, function expansion and green upgrading of dual wheel drive
Lyocell fiber itself has the characteristics of softness, smoothness, strong moisture absorption, good permeability, good dimensional stability, etc. It can integrate the advantages of various fibers after being blended with a variety of fibers. In recent years, based on its own characteristics and through technological innovation, the enterprise has developed many series of Lyocell fibers, which greatly meet the downstream demand.
Zhongfang Green Fiber has developed Hiesel, Youssel and Fusel in the spinning field; Developed Wessel for nonwoven field; In terms of function series, there are Jiesaier and Annai fiber; In terms of zero carbon sustainable series, there are green fiber bamboo, Huansaier, etc. In particular, at the end of 2023, the production line of Zhongfang Green Fiber Flame Retardant Lyocell fiber with 10000 tons was successfully started at one time, making a major technological breakthrough.

According to downstream demand, Sidelli has developed three categories of standard Lyocell, CL series Lyocell and Lyocell for non-woven field. In combination with Lyolink Lyocell fiber locking technology of German American Chemical, the company adopts the scheme of cross linking in the dyeing stage bath at the fabric end in coordination with the downstream process, which significantly improves the fibrillation of Lyocell knitted fabrics and is widely recognized by the downstream.
Baoding Swan has been deeply engaged in the innovation field of Lyocell fiber for more than ten years. Based on traditional staple fiber technology, it has maintained stable output capacity in subdivided fields, and has developed a number of Lyocell fiber products, including cross-linked, antibacterial, flame retardant, chopped and other products.

The NMMO solvent recovery rate is more than 99.9%, and the waste is biodegradable. At present, the product quality and resource consumption level have reached the international advanced standards, leading the domestic industry level. Sedley Lyocell fiber is sourced from the internationally certified plantation owned by Golden Eagle Group. The closed-loop production process is adopted. The production process is purely physical reaction. The solvent recovery rate is up to 99.7%, and the final product can be 100% biodegradable.
Stabilizing market position C and providing green support for downstream
At the moment when the concept of global sustainable development is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, Lyocell fiber has been highly recognized by customers for its excellent green and environmental characteristics, and has gradually been applied to all kinds of products throughout the year, and has also made remarkable achievements in export. In 2024, the sales revenue of Lyocell fiber of Sidelli (Changzhou) Fiber Co., Ltd. will increase by 17.4% year on year; In the first quarter of this year, the production and sales of the company increased by 30% year on year, and the import and export volume increased by 26% year on year. The growth rate of the total value of foreign trade import and export in Changzhou ranked first in southern Jiangsu and second in the province.
The spinning industry is the main application position of Lyocell staple fiber. In 2023, China Cotton Textile Industry Association and China Chemical Fiber Industry Association jointly carried out a special survey on the application of recycled cellulose fiber, revealing the popularity of Lyocell fiber in the spinning industry. The survey covered 80% of the top 40 companies in the 2022 China Non cotton Products Revenue Ranking List, involving more than 20 million spindles. The results show that about 74% of spinning enterprises have tried to use Lyocell fiber, about 45% of enterprises control the proportion of Lyocell raw materials at about 10%, and 30% of enterprises control the proportion of Lyocell raw materials at 20% - 30%. This shows that Lyocell fiber is gradually becoming an important raw material choice for spinning enterprises, and its recognition and application proportion in the industry are rising.

The Lyocell fiber of China National Textile Green Fiber Group is brilliant in Guangdong's denim industry. Its products are widely used in denim yarn, fabric and clothing enterprises, helping to produce more than 1 million pairs of jeans. Zhongfang Green Fiber has also cooperated with Jiangsu Mutual Textile Co., Ltd. by adopting molecular chain cross-linking technology to launch antigen fiber knitted Lyocell yarn, which significantly reduces the risk of fibrillation and provides a strong guarantee for the high-quality production of downstream products.

Face the Challenge and Build a Sustainable Development Ecology
Yu Hanjiang said that although Lyocell fiber has made remarkable achievements in capacity increase and application expansion, it still faces some challenges.
In terms of production, the supply of raw materials still needs attention. The main raw material of Lyocell fiber is lignocellulose. The uneven distribution of global wood resources and the problems of sustainable management lead to the instability of raw material supply. In terms of application, problems such as low consumer awareness and limited fabric style also restrict the further promotion of Lyocell fiber.
In view of the above challenges, Lyocell fiber industry needs to take a series of countermeasures. In terms of production, it is necessary to stabilize the supply of raw materials, establish a long-term and stable cooperative relationship with raw material suppliers, actively explore other renewable plant fiber raw materials, such as bamboo pulp, hemp, straw pulp, etc., and expand the source channels of raw materials. In terms of application, market promotion should be strengthened, and the popularity and market awareness of Lyocell fiber should be improved through advertising, participation in industry exhibitions and other ways; At the same time, innovate product styles, strengthen cooperation with downstream enterprises, and jointly develop more fabrics of different styles.
