Top grade raw materials have long enjoyed a high reputation in the world.

However, cotton prices continue to fall worldwide, leaving the famed Egyptian cotton industry on the decline. Many Egyptian farmers have chosen to grow other crops.

Recently, the Egyptian government abolished subsidies to Egyptian cotton growers, which not only made households unable to make ends meet, but also made Egypt's cotton industry precarious.

According to the report in January 18th, the quality cotton supplied by Egypt accounted for 1/6 of the total cotton quality in the world.

However, cotton planted in the United States, India, Peru and Sultan can also be called Egyptian cotton, which makes the cotton produced locally in Egypt unable to display its unique status in the international market.

The reason for this is that in 1920s, Egypt did not defend its brand of Egyptian cotton, which led to the fact that all the countries in the world could later call themselves high-quality cotton for Egyptian cotton and Egyptian cotton as a general term rather than a special name for cotton, a special Egyptian product.

This is indeed a pity. Egypt's cotton as a symbol of Egyptian culture is of great importance. People used to call Egypt cotton "fourth Pyramid".

Now, even with the last straw of subsidies, farmers must turn to planting higher profit crops.

Recently, the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture announced that the government has cancelled a supplement of 350 pounds per 160 kilograms of cotton, which is equivalent to 40% of the current market price.

According to Egyptian government data, Egypt exported 109 thousand and 600 tons of cotton in the second quarter of the fiscal year, down 70% from the same quarter in 2013.

Egypt's cotton planting area has dropped from 924 thousand hectares in the last century to 15 thousand hectares in 60s.

The long staple cotton market, known as "Platinum" by the Egyptians, has been shrinking for many years, and many local businesses are importing it.

Global cotton prices continue to decline, let the Egyptian government feel subsidized cotton manufacturers little sense, and now Egypt's fiscal tight.

Egyptian farmers say the government has recently decided to cancel subsidies to cotton growers, which has plunged Egypt's cotton industry into recession.

Once the subsidy is cancelled, the cotton growers will fall into a loss situation directly.

The profit margin is low, even if there is a subsidy, the farmers' life is not easy. With the introduction of the policy, it is estimated that no farmers will grow cotton anymore.
